As a result of the unexpectedly quick development vaccines to prevent COVID-19, Canadian government was pulled in two opposite directions. On one hand, Canadians exerted extreme pressure on purchase and roll out as fast possible for domestic immunization. other it sought promote global access vaccine, which would save more lives. This article examines how responded this quandary, why made those choices, what effect better approach have been. I argue that, by adopting resolute “Canada First” electoral reasons, while also rhetorically espousing equitable access, tried satisfy both sides. However, focusing overwhelmingly “doing good” Canadians, is indirectly harm” vulnerable people abroad prolonging pandemic globally too. “vaccine nationalism” harmful economic interests claims leadership, will reduce Canada’s “soft power”.
